Greenhill Humane Society

Renovation and Expansion

Since 1944, Greenhill Humane Society has been dedicated to the well-being of the most vulnerable animals in our community. Their life-saving rate is among the best in the country, and now they have the facilities to support this level of care.

This project consisted of remodeling and expanding the existing Green Hill Road location from 14,000 to 24,000 square feet, as well as bringing both shelters to one location. The first phase of the project included replacing Greenhill’s 60-year-old dog kennel building with a new 12,000-square-foot facility. Improvements were also made to the cattery and lobby, as well as several new “meet and greet” areas where animals and potential owners can play and get to know one another.

The last phase of the project consists of building a state-of-the-art medical clinic to greatly increase the level of care provided to the community’s homeless, lost and neglected animals.

GREENHILL HUMANE SOCIETY

“We have been working with McKenzie Commercial since 2015 and recently completed a $6 million expansion and remodel.
From the initial design-build meetings, through all phases of construction, working with their team was an incredibly positive experience. The project itself was unique; a state-of-the-art animal shelter with specialized waste and air-handling systems, as well as custom designed animal holding and medical areas. There was very little that was cookie-cutter, and only a few examples to learn from exist around the country. Throughout the process, their team was professional and competent. The construction phase was smooth and to schedule. Because the project was an expansion and remodel of our existing shelter, we had to remain fully operational during construction. The entire team was sensitive to the needs of our human and animal clients. It was a tremendous pleasure to work with a group of people who demonstrate pride in the work they do, depth of experience, and a genuine commitment to complete a project to the highest standards. They treated our project as a labor of love. Their heartfelt commitment to our project left a lasting impression on all of us doing work on behalf of the animals and on this community that now has one of the best animal shelters in the country.”
